What is the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)?

The CEFR is a tool established by the Council of Europe to define proficiency in a foreign language such as French, according to various criteria. Since 2001, it has been a reference in the field of learning and teaching French.

The CEFR describes foreign language skills at six levels: A1 and A2, B1 and B2, C1 and C2. It thus provides a basis for the mutual recognition of language certifications, promoting educational and professional mobility.

It is used in Europe as well as on other continents, and is available in 40 languages.

All French courses at the French Institute of Cambodia are aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe.
