Festival Photo Phnom Penh 2024
Welcome Back: 60 perspectives
French Institute of Cambodia (Gallery), November 21, 2024 to January 15, 2025
To celebrate the 15th edition of Photo Phnom Penh we simply asked some of the photographers who had previously exhibited at the festival to send us a previously unpublished photograph or one never exhibited in Cambodia before. There are therefore 60 of them, coming from Europe and Asia, except for two who, of American nationality, are either based in Europe or are largely developing their activity there.
In their diversity of aesthetics and statements, from documentary to conceptual, from the most poetic to the most descriptive, from the most constructed to the most intuitive, they are a significant approach of the practices and issues of photography today. The exploration of the world continues to make sense while reaching the field of contemporary art is also confirmed.
These sixty proposals, faithful to a festival welcoming since its beginnings all trends in photography, speak about today, about the emotions and the concerns that it provides and arouses. If, as we are accustomed to, memory, history, identities, concern for nature and ecology are there, we can now see videos and animated images which were totally ignored during the first years.
