From Book to Stage: Adapting "Coming Out of My Skin" in Khmer // ជំនួបអ្នកនិពន្ធ ៖ ការប្រែសម្រួលល្ខោន

The journey of translation and stage adaptation in Khmer of the book "Coming Out of My Skin"

The conversation focuses on the process of writing, translating in Khmer and adapting for the stage ‘Coming Out of My Skin’ written originally in French by Jean-Baptiste Phou. The story follows the adventures of a Cambodian-Chinese gay man born in France navigating the journey of self-discovery and learning to inhabit his skin and the world while queer and Asian.

During the conversation, the author Jean-Baptiste Phou will reveal the genesis of the book, the Khmer right holders and translator So Phina will share about the idea of translating and publishing this book, translation process and challenges and actor Heng Seyhassneth will give some insight about the stage adaptation creation. The discussion will be followed by a signing session of the book in French. This event is co-organised by Kampu Mera and l’Institut français du Cambodge.

Rencontre littéraire : Le parcours de traduction et d'adaptation scénique en khmer du livre "La Peau hors du placard"

La conversation porte sur le processus d'écriture, de traduction en khmer et d'adaptation scénique de "La Peau hors du placard" (Le Seuil, 2024), écrit à l'origine en français par Jean-Baptiste Phou. On y suit les aventures d’un homme homosexuel d’origine sino-cambodgienne né en France cherchant à habiter sa peau et le monde en tant que gay et asiatique.

Au cours de la conversation, l'auteur Jean-Baptiste Phou révélera la genèse du livre, l’éditrice des droits khmers et la traductrice So Phina parlera du processus de traduction et de ses défis, et l'acteur Heng Seyhassneth donnera un aperçu de la création de l'adaptation scénique. La discussion sera suivie d’une discussion et séance de dédicaces du livre en français. Cet événement est co-organisé par Kampu Mera et l’Institut français du Cambodge.
